The Saint David's community gathers for worship at 9:30 AM every Sunday
to sing, listen to readings from the Bible, hear a sermon, pray, offer the blessing of God's Peace to one another, and celebrate the Lord's Supper with wine and home-baked bread.
There's usually Children's Church for the younger set, and children are always welcome to bring quiet toys and books.
Wednesdays at 6:30 PM
a smaller group gathers for the Lord's Supper and quiet talk.
At both these services, we're saving a seat for you. Come and visit!

Who We Are - Community Life at Saint David's
"By this, all people will know that you are my disciples, that you have love for one another." (John 13)
Saint David's gathers every Sunday as a community to worship, to offer hospitality to one another and to celebrate our friendship in Christ. We DO and BE the Gospel by serving others, by worshiping together, by the ministry of prayer, and by taking joy in one another.
Our shared parish meals are memorable and generous. Preparing for holidays, caring for our garden, even cleaning the church - these are shared activities. There's a good deal of laughter mixed in with the work. Here we are at an annual Homecoming Picnic.

Worship and Music
Sunday mornings are good times. Our worship is informal and ordered, lively and dignified, expressing ancient forms in modern language and including both traditional and contemporary music. Like most churches, we pray, we sing, we read from the Bible, we hear sermons, we are quiet for reflection.
Most of our services include Holy Communion, also called the Lord's Supper or Holy Eucharist, when we share bread and wine. All baptized persons, whatever your background or denomination in the church, are welcome to receive the bread and wine, just as Jesus welcomed all who came to him.
During the sermon, children get together with two leaders for Children's Church. We're comfortable with having children worship with us. They help us make a joyful noise to the Lord. Art supplies, books and toys are in the entry.
Children at St. David's can been seen and heard
as participants in the life and worship of this community.
We think that they see this church as a safe, warm, friendly place where they
are loved and welcomed.

Our choir is active year-round and we welcome new singers!
Each holiday brings special services - Maundy Thursday footwashing, quiet reflection on Good Friday, the candlelit mystery of Christmas Eve and the Easter Vigil, and the joyous Easter feast.

Growing in Faith
At Saint David's, we affirm that we all have ways to
grow - in compassion, in insight, in skill, and in faith. We've gotten together
to study at Bible studies, after-church forums, Lenten study series,
and book discussions.
Seekers' classes and individual preparation for
Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Matrimony are offered when they are
needed.

The Reverend Whitney Rice,
is our Rector. Ordained a priest in 2009 at Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis, Whitney is an alumnus of the University of Kansas and Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University.
Whitney is a native of Lee's Summit, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City. She is the second of five sisters. Her father is a history professor at the University of Central Missouri and her mother is a librarian. Her parents joined the Episcopal Church after they married and raised their family in the Episcopal faith.
Some of her many interests include reading, dancing, bluegrass music and virtual storm chasing. Some of her other interests include University of Kansas basketball and Facebook. "I love to stay in touch with my family and friends," she explained.
Asked what made her want to be a priest in the Episcopal Church, she replied, "So many of my friends in elementary or junior high knew just what they wanted to be - a doctor, lawyer, fireman, etc. But I didn't know until high school that I wanted to help people in a special way. I had several clergy at the Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City that were such an inspiration and I knew then, this is what I wanted to do with my life." |
Joe Ridenour, our choir director, is a
part-time pastor in the Disciples of Christ and seems to spend all the
rest of his time visiting family or making music. He is a composer,
arranger, conductor, singer, and instrumentalist, and he's somebody who
knows how to keep the "ministry" in "music ministry." Our choir rehearses every Sunday at 8:30 AM and if you show up ready to sing, Joe will be glad to have you.

Our organist, Tammera Lane, plays - along with piano and organ - a whole collection of wonderful and strange instruments including bowed psaltery and hurdy-gurdy. It's wonderful to have these new sounds as part of our worship! Along with her experience in church music, Tammera is part of the local band Celtica. Tammera is a fine addition to our parish tradition of
wonderful and distinctive musicians.
